Please join us for the launch of This Magazine's all-new design. Music, conversation, cheap magazines, draws and door prizes, and even a decorate-your-own cupcake bar, complete with CMYK icing.
When: Tuesday, March 10, 2009, 8 p.m.
Where: Supermarket (268 Augusta Ave.) [map]
What: Just $5 gets you the completely redesigned March-April issue and a cupcake to decorate. Meet the staff, writers, readers, and other members of the This family. We'll post more details here closer to the date.
We wanted a colourful and fun activity for people to do at the party, and decided that decorating cupcakes would be a tasty and low-pressure way for people to meet and talk and mingle. Then The Walrus challenged us to a cupcake-decorating competition. We couldn't say no to a challenge, and soon other publications wanted in (except Spacing). So now it's competitive: words are being exchanged, grills are being gotten all up into, and rumours are everywhere.
The facts: We will provide one blank cupcake each to work your artistry on during the party on March 10 (while supplies last). We'll also provide icing and some rudimentary tools. You don't have to compete, but those who want to can bring their finished creation to the judging table. We'll photograph them for posterity and when the deadline closes, the judge(s) will pick a winner. Modest prize is TBD, but really, you're in this for the bragging rights. Please email cupcakes@thismagazine.ca if you're a publication that wants in, so we know who to expect. Good luck, happy hunting, and see you on March 10.
Our friends at Urbane Cyclist have kindly donated this snazzy Dahon Speed D7 folding bicycle to the cause, and we'll be raffling it off on the night of the party. This bike includes a kickstand, rear-wheel rack, and chrome fenders, weighs in at 26 pounds, and folds up in 15 seconds. Rifle through your couch for change, becuase we'll be selling tickets to the raffle during the party.
We've also got door prizes piling up courtesy of our sponsors, who you can check out below. So even if you don't stroll glide away on the Dahon D7 at the end of the night, you've got lots of chances to win sweet prizes just by showing up.
